  It takes some determination to dumb down a movie as bare bones as The Hitcher. In its 1986 incarnation C Thomas Howell stops for the wrong guy - Rutger Hauer - who turns out to be a psychopath. He escapes, but Hauer is only just getting warmed up. He butchers a family a little further on down the highway and frames Howell for the killings. Then when the young man is arrested, Hauer kills the cops too. And so on. Twenty years later not much has changed. Even the cell phone is easily dispensed... Read more
