(91)Imagine the worst film you've ever watched, but twice as long!
By a customer , 17 Jun 2013This is so very very bad - I had to fast forward most of it and even at 1. 5x speed it was ponderous!- Was this review helpful to you?

Trolls and little men might scare the kids or you!
By Raiden_188 (6 reviews) , 17 Jun 2013Really enjoyable film. Gandolf is his witty self with his mojo staff. i am glad you get to see how it all begins with Bilbo and the ring. Never read the books so i am glad to see some more about dwarves... and yes they like to sing, drink, burp and fight.- Was this review helpful to you?

its really a ½ hour long if you fast forward the boring parts
By Pawlo (14 reviews) , 17 Jun 2013This is a childish film for children. I mean hobbits and dwarfs. I was never really one for watching lord of the rings. The only thing that excited me in them were the credits at then end and trying to escape from the cinema alive 'a hobbit wouldn't stand a chance',, because there were.. Just too many people trying to watch this pointless franchise. I mean in this film a dwarf, dwarfs a hobbit. Overrated trash! Its on for.. 3 hours so the fast forward button gets a work out.- Was this review helpful to you?

If you love the book, don't look!
By a customer , 17 Jun 2013There's no doubt Peter Jackson knows how to make a film that looks great. As with LotR, the scenery is stunning, the design superb. It has a great cast and the music is lovely. But Tolkien fans will be left wondering how he could make a film that's sooooooo long and yet has so little of 'The Hobbit' in it! Every scene has been 'sexed up' to an almost absurd extent. Skirmishes in the book become vast, elaborate running battles. Large chucks of the plot have simply been invented by the screenwriters, or loosely based on the LotR back-story. Radaghast, in particular, a minor character from LotR who doesn't appear in The Hobbit, has been fleshed out to not just a character but a whole environment. Unfortunately one which seems to have been grafted on from a live-action re-make of 'Bambi'. It really jars. The relationships have been livened up with an invented antipathy between Thorin and Bilbo which is resolved in a cringe-making scene in the final moments. Looking at it purely as a film its not bad (if over long) especially if you like lots and lots of action. But The Hobbit (the book) is very different in tone from LotR. It is very much a children's book and its a shame that the target audience won't be able to see the film as it is far too long and far too violent for them.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not worth the time
By aliT2 (1 review) , 15 Jun 2013Childish nonsense - Tolkien would be turning in his grave! Not fit to be associated with the Lord of the Rings films.- Was this review helpful to you?
