unfortunate
Holmes smug beyond bearability, Watson insufferably unctuous and fawning in Holmes' company, overbearing and supercilious in the company of everyone else, the plot altered and the hound no more spooky at any point than a nasty guard dog. Oh Dear. Holmes stories can be angled for charm, humour, suspense ~ or as in this case misfire completely.
