More about evolution than the Human Body
By Stewart from Coventry, England , 24 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I was disappointed after watching this series. I was hoping to get a further insight into the functioning of the Human Body, and how the various components work together. This is not what it was about.
The entire first episode was on the theory of evolution. The way it was presented was that this was how it had happened as a proven fact, where as the 'theory of evolution' is just a theory, and whilst flaws have been discovered in some of Darwin's work none of the uncertainties were mentioned.
The episode on the new born baby and the early years was the most informative, but again tainted by trying to push the theory of evolution again.
The episode on the teens was not as well done. It covered some of the changes through puberty, but more from the feelings of the teenagers rather than the biology. It didn't even come close to discussing basic sex education.
The episode on the brain was better, but none of the other organs of the body were discussed in the same level of detail (in fact most organs of the body never got a mention).
Two of the sensory organs were discussed, the eyes, and the ears, but that was more about how they can deteriorate with age rather than as an opportunity to inform how they work. The other 3 sensors weren't even mentioned.
Whilst the episode on death gave some useful insights, it spent too long on discussing the effects of G-Force and peoples perception of 'near death experiences'. Time that could have been better spent on topics more relevant to the human body.
The series did use some 'ground breaking' techniques, these are now looking a bit dated.
The level seams to be aimed at older school children (14-16), but doesn't cover enough information to be a useful learning resource.
It's worth watching as some of it was interesting and well presented, but it would be more accuratly described as a the Theory of Evolution on The Human Body, rather than it's current title which suggests it should have more on the anatomy of the human body.- Was this review helpful to you?

(20)Is this amazing machine evoluted, or created...!?
By sorin (7 reviews) , 13 Apr 2011Nice presentation which is definately worth seeing but is shame that is built exclusively on the evolution point of view. Science is not always the absolute truth, as we know very well that science came to many wrong conclusions along the time, which was reviewed afterwards giving totally opposite views. So a more balanced aproach to the subject is surely more apropriate when we try to understand nature and human body. The Holy Bible is there to give clear answers regarding our beginnings and many times they are more realistic, and based on pure inspiration. There is a GOD, the Creator, which looks like the modern generation of people on this Earth wants to push out of the picture.
So, watching this documentary is something like eating the melon and spitting out the seeds...- Was this review helpful to you?

Made for TV
By DriftWords from Surrey , 14 Aug 2006This series has the potential to be fascinating and the first programme should get it off to a good start, but it's let down for me by its urge to show you everything that the rest of the series has to offer.
Therefore this is more of an extended trailer than a coherent programme.
This sort of popular science can be patronising, but this stays on the right side of the line.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent explainations all can understand!
By a customer from Caterham, Surrey, England , 02 Apr 2006Excellent series about the human body. Professor Winston explains fascinating facts and everything you ever wanted to know about the body in a really easily understood and interesting way. Highly recommended if you have any medical interests or are even just studying Biology at school.- Was this review helpful to you?

useful, but sometimes sidetracks
By a customer from Liverpool England , 02 Apr 2006Not recommended for young children as it starts with a wide range of nude people, of all shapes sizes and ages!!
It has good graphics and film of development of baby in the womb, but gets sidetracked into isssues as you go along.- Was this review helpful to you?
