Ok first of all I am glad this film was made because I would never have been interested in the books without seeing the trailer. I read all three in a week, not much on at the moment, and I thought it was an excellent series. I could not wait to see the movie and as soon as it was released I went straight to my local cinema full of eager anticipation. The build up to the games was quite true to the book however once Katlin went up the tube the whole film became one major dissapointment. The book was violent with some very disturbing scenes, I did not feel it was a teenage book at all. The film makers obviously chose to target teenagers and glossed over the violence and made it 'twilighty', read the book and you will see what I mean. The scene where Kato gets gnawed at by the muts, he was wearing chainmail so they only get to his hands and feet, was completely glossed over. The reason our two heroes survived was because they pretended to be in love and got the support of sponsors and the public. There are whole sections of the book which were not explored very well at all. Anyway had the film makers decided to make a movie for adults, such as Battle Royale, the condemned and arena this could have been a cult classic. What we have instead is a money making teenage franchise in the twilight vein. A wasted opportunity to make a statement about the corrupt concept of globalisation, which the book achieved so successfuly. Do yourselves a favour and read the books instead, you will not forget them I promise, which is so much more than can be said for this mediocre effort.

The start was slow and a bit boring, however I stuck with it and once the games started it was a really good film, a little bit like Battle Royale

Do not watch if you are over 16. 16 or under or cannot read subtitles or looking for a very lightweight film then enjoy. All adults that can read subtitles and want the original adult version of this film search for and rent BATTLE ROYALE that the writer of this fodder ripped off...

  • Unoriginal and slow to start

This is just a remake of the far superior japanese film Battle Royale but remade for teens. Overall I enjoyed the main games but the start was quite slow and the games didn't start until halfway through the film.

Desperately wooden and utterly unbelievable in every respect. This from someone who generally enjoys science fiction movies. I agree with one of the earlier critics on this page that it bears no comparison to The Running Man, which was very slick and fast moving. I have not read the books, though I am sure they are infinitely better than the film adaptation.
