My Favourite film EVER...
By Clive#5 from HAYES , 04 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
My Favourite film EVER!
From a book by my favourite author as well.

This one keeps you on the edge of your seat as Marco Ramius (Sean Connery) runs from the Soviet Navy in the latest submarine built by them.

It runs silent but one man has a notion that it is not a threat, Ramius and others may be trying to defect and bringing with them a prize no one dreamed of.

Alec baldwin plays Ryan the CIA analist who comes up with the defection idea and then sets about trying to make it happen. (Baldwins error is not making the follow up films in the Clancy series)

(35)Not my thing
By gianino (618 reviews) from London , 12 May 2013Too long and boring personally. Good cast but the plot was boring and it went on forever. I don't even know why I rented this because it's definitely not my sort of movie- Was this review helpful to you?

Masterful film making
By Sparkyatoz (3 reviews) from Cardiff , 07 Nov 2012It doesn't get better. Master class in film making especially when you consider this was made before luxury of CGI. Without these gimmicks McTeirnan concentrates on the characters and situation of Clancy's novel rather than too much emphasis on visual impact. That said the 'Beneath the Surface' biop of the film provides fascinating insights into the production of visual effects and clever nuances of the artificial (for most part) sub envinronments.
Blu-ray adds little to the experience in my view.
Watch it ...and watch it again (with director's commentary) to really grasp masterful film making.- Was this review helpful to you?

SUPERB and then some.
By AlFaeAirdrie (1 review) , 19 Oct 2012If you still have this film on video and are no sure whether to buy on blu-ray then rent it first and, after watching it, go buy it. One of the best films ever made.- Was this review helpful to you?
