    [Highly rated reviewer]

For some unkown reason I had high hopes for this, expecting something along the lines of an American version of The Wilderness, with a bit of a supernatural element thrown in. Which, if it had been the case I beleieve I may have enjoyed. It was, unfortunately not the case. The Hunt seemed from the very start to be a third rate TV movie. Its format is very patchy, flicking from past to present in a strange attempt to tell this supposedly true story - that the families of those concerned didn't want anything to do with....I can see why!

It never really gets off the ground. Nothing of any interest whatsoever happens...at all...

It's based around a couple of 'men' out shooting a video on how to hunt deer, with one of their step sons....or 'stalk a buck' and the ex of one of these 'men' goes looking for them when they go missing. He finds some of the footage and the movie is made up of his video diary, combined with their footage, and some realtime film...and it has really bitten of more than it can chew. I would avoid it. I should have guessed by the trailers, all made by the same production company, all with the same voice over man saying things like ..'Only one man...' and 'He would find a way...' and 'Americans make some rubbish movies..'

Well not the last bit, but he may as well have.

What a total load of rubbish, no blood, no gore, 0% scary, and just when we thought it couldnt get any worse, 2 aliens turn up (like they do) and kill two people (which you dont get to see), just think of blair witch, but 100 times worse. im thinking of claiming against the producer for time wasted watching it. seriously do not rent, watch paint drying for 90 mins, its more exiting!!!

Don't know how this title got on our list but it wasn't a pleasant surprise. Could only watch for a few minutes and that was too much!!

This movie plays like a mix between 'Predator' and 'The Last Broadcast', and there's nothing wrong with that. A stepfather, his 'son' and a 'family friend' decide to make a deer hunting video and hire a small patch of American on which to do it. They come across the usual oddball collection of locals and you think that the hunting is going to be something along the lines of 'The Hills Have Eyes' or 'Southern Comfort', but once they stumble into a fenced off area and come across some strange structures, you soon realise that some ETs are going to make an appearance. Up until they do (in the final 10 minutes of the film), the film has some good spooky moments, although whether they justify the film's 18 rating is very questionable! It's obvious that the film was made to budget, but go beyond its limitations and it's not that bad. Worth a viewing.

If you want a routine (banal) teenage horror like Wilderness, then forget it. I for one hated/yawned through wilderness, so no love lost there. This is at most a 15 rating, but doesn't ever pretend to be anything more. It has limited scope with pretentious Sci-Fi overtones. Granted. But what it does do it does with finesse, in a refreshing context (although borrowing from Blair Witch amongst others) with a pleasant dark edge about it. Nothing spectacular, but better than the majority of teenie slashers that trawl the dregs of intelligence in their delivery. Worth giving a try.
