Majestic scenery, artful acting
By a customer from London , 14 Jul 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Willem Dafoe is a loner mercenary sent to the wilds of Tasmania to hunt a thought extinct predator for a shadowy biochemical company. He bonds with a family he stays with (whose husband/dad has mysteriously disappeared), and comes to question his mission. So far so cliched.
But the hunter is so much better than its fairly routine plot. The scenery of the Tasmanian forests and outback is breathtaking. There is great use of this dense forest and rocky tundra by the film maker. And then there is Defoe, his quiet character says all he needs to by the expression of his wonderfully craggy face and body language.
It's a slow movie, a slient movie for much of it, it occasionally meanders; but these are its strengths as well as its weaknesses. Ultimately it is a film that will move some; it certainly had that effect on me. Judging by the silence in the cinema during and after it had that effect on many who saw this little gem that night.
If the thought of seeing yet another Spiderman movie sends you into a spiral of depression check this out, at the cinema if you can where the setting can take full effect on the big screen.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 24 May 2013Good cast, well acted. Just a shame the story had no direction. Poor plot with lots of holes in the story line and very slow going. A waste of a couple of hours out of my life!- Was this review helpful to you?

worth hunting for
By SaspirellaSam (36 reviews) from Crawley , 20 May 2013the other reviews make a good job of telling you about this movie. Great ! William Dafoe usually plays a meanie & I found it hard to like him but here he plays a really strong character, what a good actor. Scenery amazing, storyline very good, nice pace. I'll watch it again.- Was this review helpful to you?

More sophisticated than the poster suggests
By stottie (10 reviews) from North East UK , 01 May 2013Very thoughtful and understated. No need to spell everything out for the viewer and no need for continuous wham-bam action. Plenty of space, almost Scandinavian Noir, although the music filled too often. Very good atmosphere, great visually and sharp sound track.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beautiful Scenery, good story.
By Ispy (12 reviews) , 27 Apr 2013A slow starter, then when he meets the family you begin to watch the relationships grow and it gets a whole lot more interesting. Beautiful scenery with a good story. Glad I've seen it but couldn't sit through it again.- Was this review helpful to you?
