It's not until you watch The Hustler again after more than 40 years (as I did) that you realise what a great medium black and white is for a movie and just how good an actor Paul Newman was.

This was an absolute joy to see again and this time round I sensed something of the 'stage play' about the whole thing, in terms of each scene being complete in its own right, whilst still flowing from one into the next to move the story on.

Sheer cinematic magic. I await The Color of Money with interest. Not having seen it first time round, I'll be interested to see how Newman matures the character of Fast Eddy, alongside the (then) new talent presented by Tom Cruise - himself a vastly underrated actor, in my view.
