I'm under no illusion...this is great !By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 12 Mar 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]This is a beautifully filmed really good film, that is made great by its actors. Edward Norton is just superb as Eisenheim the illusionist, but Paul Giamatti as the inspector, Jessica Biel as Sophie and Rufus Sewell as Crown Prince leopold are similarly excellent. The whole thing just comes together really well and makes for a really interesting film.
Although it is just a story, it does have a whiff of reality in the portrayal of Crown Prince of Austria, who was a real odd bod, who, to all intents and purposes ended the Habsburg monarchy on his controvertial death with his mistress in 1889. It is still not known if it was really suicide or if they were murdered.
This film is well worth a watch.

Just an illusionBy RussnEmma (403 reviews) from London, England , 14 Feb 2011A very well played out movie.
Edward Norton is great as the leading role with a very convincing performance.
Some of the illusions performed are very impressive to see and well executed.
Simply MagicBy Tink78 (16 reviews) from Wolverhampton , 29 Jan 2011I have told everyone i know to watch this film, it's beautifully shot, the plot was awesome and the acting supurb, yes Norton shines but for me the award go's to Paul Giamatti as the detective just trying to serve his king but finding having a concience does not help.
its not action packed and don't expect blood and gore this is a classy film but one well worth watching.
Worth a look atBy a customer from shropshire , 20 Jan 2011Saw a trailer for this film before watching The Painted Veil, also starring Edward Norton & have to say not at all disappointed. Lovely film, beautifully but together that left you guessing to the end. A very clever Illusion so much so I had to watch it again to get the illusion
Great cast in Jessica Beil, Rufus Sewell & Edward Norton.
The IllusionistBy a customer from Northampton , 17 Jan 2011A well put together film but quite a disappointing story, a bit slow in places! Could have been better. Good illusions though.
Somewhat disappointingBy Davic (19 reviews) from Fleet , 17 Jan 2011Once into the story it is quite an enjoyable film, but we had difficulty at the beginning of the disc clicking onto PLAY as it seemed to flutter on and off the screen along with two other options. We spent the first half hour listening to the Director giving a commentary on the film before realising that this wasn't actually the film! The ending was disappointing.
