    superb.........

this was a superb period drama, which is about a very little known true story in history, from our colonial past. it is about a cornish girl called mary bryant who was transported to botany bay for stealing a bonnet.

it is a true testament of the determination of the human spirit and their bravery. ordinary people were transported for usually petty crimes. it showed just how people were able to survive against overwhelming odds.

this is well worth renting out, particularly if you had ancestors who were transported to australia, just like i did.

    Very interesting and intriguing

I thought this film was very intense and one of the few DVD's I have ever bought.

What intrigued me most was the relationship between Mary and Clarke. You could never really tell how she felt towards him, and this made the film all the more interesting. However, although based on a true story I don't believe they actually had a relationship in real life. Their relationship did detract slightly from the 'Incredible journey' but added some complexity to the film, making it easier to watch for its quite long duration. Clarkes character was really well played, and at times you summed him up as a nice guy, then hated him, and then felt sorry for him. Mary on the other hand you could initally feel sorry for but then if you look into it more deeply she was actually a little selfish in my opinion.

All in all I thought it was well made, and well acted, with lots to think about after the film had finished. Even my partner, who doesnt usually enjoy this type of film thought it was good.
