I first watched this film as a young teenager and it has had hold over me ever since. Deborah Kerr, in one of her best roles, is completely convincing as the naive Governess sent to look after two young children. This film really is a classic. I won't spoil the plot for those who haven't seen it but it has all the best things in a thriller - hauntings, disturbing children, dark corridors. You'll definitely want to keep the lights on after watching this - and avoid anyone called Miles or Flora.

Rather dissapointing this film, it has no scary bits in at all. It was on a scary list on the internet but it was honestly so unscary.

  • A real chiller - one of the most sinister films of all time

    Rated - 5.0 stars

One of the great chilling films of all time. It still scares me 40 years after first seeing it - no blood and gore just a briliantly crafted sinister film of the top order. From the idyllic opening to the shocking climax it is a real 'tour de force'. it really gets under your skin and is really disturbiing in its underlyng content. It has a 12 rating but I strongly advise that this is a film that I would not show anyone under 15. My daughter (aged 25) watched it for the first time and she had to lock all her car dors when driving home......

Love it or not... you can't fault this film in any department. It prompts a lot of user reviews. And the reason for that is probably the story. From start to finish there is doubt about where the narrative is going in the viewers mind. That leads to all sorts of projection from the viewer about why things are happening in the way they are. In the end you get many different opinions about what was NOT seen and NOT known to the viewer. Viewers fill in the gaps themselves. It is a very clever script. And the result is a feeling of mystery and disturbance long after you've seen it. You won't forget it easily.

  • Eerie and Scary.... But You Just Have To Watch It!

This film is one of the best black and white films i have watched. Deborah Kerr portrays the governess of the two children, and gives the film justice.

This film is definaltly one of the eeriest and atmospheric film i have watched.
