(56)It's good - and I'm not lying
By FCAhound (71 reviews) from London & Norfolk , 09 Dec 2012I note that this film seems to have attracted many detractors - I'm sure they aren't lying, either. But I reckon they are wrong. Thing is, Ricky Gervais has painted himself into a corner: one that requires him forever to be David Brent or some cheeky, controversial MC/stand up. Fact is this is a subtle, clever and thought provoking film, as well as being more than a bit amusing. In places it goes a bit Hollywood gloop, but it's a fable after all, so that should be permitted. In fable things are larger than life, ironic, iconic and lots more. So On the Buses it ain't - but charming, funny and a little bit profound it is. No lie.- Was this review helpful to you?

Average Comedy
By GaryI (785 reviews) from March, Cambs , 09 Sep 2012The single issue with this comedy is its not actually funny enough. True it has a few great moments but it is really a condemnation of religion and whilst the views expressed I fully agree with, in their delivery the comedy got lost.- Was this review helpful to you?

If God didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent him
By Overpaid (20 reviews) from London , 20 Jul 2012A surprisingly thought provoking satire on social conventions and religion - effectively turning Voltaires famous quote about God into a feature length romantic comedy. Like most film comedies the set up is by far the funniest part of the film, and the last third is too serious and shows that the writers didnt really know how to end it. Some reviewers have described this film as militantly athiest; im not so sure, it probably has more to say about why people choose to believe that whether or not there are gods or a god out there.- Was this review helpful to you?
