I found this a little disappointing, the episodes are startlingly short in comparison to other documentaries that have attempted to cover similar material and as a result it races through at such a pace that at times it becomes less of a documentary and more a straight reading of facts and dates. The natural consequence of this is that it failed to conjure up any excitement in me and despite some of the information being undeniably illuminating, it was rather difficult to recall much of what I was told after each episode had finished. Overall I wouldn't recommend renting this and instead would advise someone to opt for Simon Schama's history of Britain which aside from being much better value for money in terms of time (3 hours per disc as opposed to 40 minutes) is an altogether more enjoyable and educational experience.
