Eric Rohmer is one of France's greatest living film directors. This is his adaptation of the memoirs of an aristocratic Scottish lady living in Paris during the French revolution, who faces the risk of execution as she tries to oppose injustice and tyranny and protect friends. Authentic and convincing, Rohmer focuses on the acting and historical drama rather than sensationalism. A very intelligent film. Recommended.
