The words " pretentious" and "drivel" are the first to spring to mind.....

This is a really disappointing film, as IMHO are so many Orson Welles movies. Yes, he has some credites to his name.......but so many self-indulgent,arty-farty, unenjoyable ones that he really stays in my mind as a pretentious bore.
This film has no plot that anyone can follow......and what storyline there is........is ludicrous. Sign a statement confessing to a murder you didn't do, in order to receive $5,000 for doing so......and imagine that you're going to be rich instead of what everyone would expect : to be on trial for murder ???????????? Blimey !
Even gorgeous Rita Hayworth cannot retrieve any interest in this film. My interest lasted for less than 15 minutes and then never came back.
Welle's ridiculous Irish accent, his complete domination of every scene , his role as director ensuring that he gets in all his oh so clever (NOT) cinema angles and pretentions to be a master of film noir............
whatever brought about his reputation ?? Beats me.....and I consider myself as someone who knows films.....the good, bad and mediocre.
Many viewers will no doubt regard this review as sacrilege....just wait to when I get round to doing a review of 'Citizen Kane' !!!!
Don't waste your time on this poor film.....life is too short.
