This is a disc for any fan of the show it's an essential (just for Hank's sex Tape alone). If you've never seen it before and you are a fan of comedy aimed at an adult audience then I would also highly recommend it as an introduction to one of the finest sitcoms of the nineties. Jeffrey Tambor is 'Hey now' Hank Kingsley, Sanders' show sidekick, a brilliant portrayal of a self-centred 'full-of-himself' idiot. Finally, Rip Torn is Arthur, the show's no-nonsense producer, who rules the roost with an iron hand, whilst cleverly letting the fragile ego of Sanders believe he's always getting what he wants
It never ceases to amaze me that US shows like this and Seinfeld were put on very late night on weekdays, whereas that cure for insomnia Friends was on (and probably still is) at peak times throughout the week. Sure, it contains strong language, but this never seems out of place, unlike on cookery shows like Jamies and Gordons.
In this case satire is the highest form of wit, and to my mind it is shows like this which really changed American TV, which was an irony-free zone before the Nineties. Our own sitcoms lost their way at this time, but, maybe partly thanks to the likes of Seinfeld and Sanders, things have picked up again with The Office and Phoenix Nights. If you like this, I suggest youll also like current shows Curb your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development (where the actor who plays Hank Kingsley is reincarnated as a convicted multi-millionaire on the run, hidden in the attic of his family home).

Showbiz trade paper Variety says Apatow - currently one of the hottest properties in Hollywood after his involvement in Knocked Up, Superbad and The 40-Year-Old Virgin - will receive the accolade at the inaugural Just Comedy conference, which will run alongside the main festival. Apatow's other writing... Read more
