Most helpful review The Last Horror Movie

  • If you rent films in London then this is for you

    [Highly rated reviewer]

The other reviews of this film capture the main points about this film: it's a low-budget horror film based on an interesting idea, with absolutely shocking (in its simplicity) violence but let down by some iffy acting , an occasionally irritating script and a too-frequent home-video feeling.

However one point is that if you rent movies from video shops, particularly in London, then this film has much more relevance for you and if you enjoy low-budget horrors in general then this film specifically will be one of the most memorable you can see.

  • Just see Man Bites Dog instead

Low-budget slasher with a difference - but not as much as difference as it might like to think.

Like Man Bites Dog and the first Funny Games, this asks questions about the viewers' relationship to the violence unfolding before them. However, because of its renting-a-video set up these events lack any tension at all. And unlike Man Bites Dog, the central performance is not strong enough to pull the film together.

What we're left with is little more than film school posing and sixth form-level psychobabble. But at least it tries...

This film is unpleasant, and not at all entertaining. I would seriously recommend giving this as wide a berth as possible.

  • Biting comedy...not horror.

When I first watched this film, it was seen as a confrontational uncompromising first person narrative about a serial killer. Watching it again a few years afterwards, I realise that this is completely the wrong way to view it - it is in fact a very very good comedy film. Ok a very good but sick film, but I can't believe that I didn't see it for what it is. Therefore I can now forgive the rubbish acting, the terrible plot inconsistencies etc because this is effectively a London take on Brett Easton Ellis's AMERICAN PSYCHO. Hilarious.

Rubbish film. The only thing i paid attention to was when he asks, why are you still watching? Why indeed?!
