Wonderful Rock Movie
By futurepurple (11 reviews) from Aberdeen , 02 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This has to be one of the greatest rock movies ever made - every element is perfectly executed. Martin Scorsese directs, Robbie Robertson produces, there are several top cinematographers behind the cameras and the array of featured artists has never been matched.
The Band are faultless in their performance and you really feel part of the stage action. Robbie's guitar on 'Who Do You Love?' with Ronnie Hawkins is captivating as is the panic setting in when Bob Dylan decides to change his set midway through.
The interviews are neatly intercut to fit the songs and are both interesting and revealing - you can see the distance between the members of the Band, Robbie confident and media-savvy, LLevon reluctant to take part and Richard looking shy and fragile.
If you enjoy good music, even if you don't know the Band, this comes highly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Carsey (89 reviews) from Wisbech , 18 Sep 2009The appeal for this film is slightly lost if you are a.) under 50 and b.) a massive scorcese fan.
The heart behind the reason of this film is 100%! The last gig from 'The Band' after a 16 year stint on the road, incorporating musical figures or gods (if you are a hop on the band wagon student) into the concert is very pleasing but for me having somebody like Dylan, Joni Mitchell etc performing songs that i have never heard of doesn't really get the juices flowing.
It does look beautiful though and you do feel all the energy that is in the room at that moment and best of all the band seem like they are having the best time of their lives!
It is a very personal concert movie, but like me if you dont really follow or care about these big musical names then it wont sway you to buy any of their back catalogues. For me it was nothing more than half a dozen smug musicians playing a concert. But a very good looking concert!- Was this review helpful to you?

The Last Waltz
By a customer from Cambridge , 03 Sep 2008I was disappointed to find that this DVD did not contain footage of the concert, just the tracks on the existing double album, lyrics, and some photographs. So, if you've already got the album, you needn't borrow this, and if you felt like an evening on the settee watching some great musicians, note that you'll only be seeing stills.
It is a fantastic album, though!- Was this review helpful to you?
