Surprisingly enjoyable rubbishBy a customer from London , 02 Apr 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]You know, I should have hated this: predictable plot, check; one dimensional characters, check; too many characters, check; annoying token american, check; over reliance on CGI, check. However, with a pizza on my lap and a beer in my hand, I really warmed to this overblown mess of a movie. Perhaps it was Connery, sly old dog that he is, drawing me in against my better critical intentions; or the sheer naive scale of the thing (that 'ship' steaming through Venice!!) but I gotta hold up my remote and admit a guilty fondness for this film. Hey, we all gotta have a quality cinematic bypass at some time.

What a lot of Tosh!By a customer from Newbury, Berkshire , 11 May 2009I'm not sure why I have even bothered to give it one star. It was absolutely appalling, in fact I didn't even manage to make it to the end. The acting was wooden (even Sean Connery) and the story line was just plain daft and purile. It just didn't hang together.
I wouldn't bother, unless you have plenty of time and don't mind wasting an evening. A good book would be more rewarding!
BrillBy a customer from Sheffield , 12 Feb 2009i must have seen this 3 times or more and enjoy it's varied story every time, a great adventure film for those who like that sort of thing!
Maybe we were in the wrong moodBy AnthonyG (48 reviews) from London , 10 Feb 2009But we failed to get into the atmosphere.
I suppose it was tongue in cheek - but for us it sadly never quite worked.
The sort of film you feel Connery made to pay an impending tax bill - not from the heart.
A good film to watch with the family on a Friday night.By a customer from Uxbridge , 28 Jan 2009We watched this as a family on a Friday night with a 'take-out' and the kids thought it was great.
If you want to sit down and unwind for the weekend then this is a good film to watch.
The plot moves along at a good pace, though there are a couple of times when it slows down a bit much, otherwise it keeps you interested.
Good use of special effects help to enhance the films appeal.
Phone for a 'take-out' and enjoy!
