    True to the legend

This is the 1975 television version of the Legend of Robin Hood and follows the story pretty faithfully. Not much Hollywood razzamattazz in this one and it seems actually the better for it. Diane Keen as Maid Marion. The music's a bit trying and bares a close resemblance to the music in By the Sword Divided, very repetetive. If you like Robin Hood then you should like this version. Six 50 minute episodes on 2 discs, worth a look.

Not widely known for good reason

OK but doesn't exactly set the screen alight. Production values are 1970s BBC (think Elizabeth R, I Claudius); acting mostly pretty good; script and plotting workmanlike with a few minor flaws. Obviously stirs fond memories in those who saw it when first broadcast, and it has its moments, but overall lacks charm and brio, making this one for collectors and completists. Not as good as 'Robin of Sherwood', but still better than 'Robin Hood'.

    This is Robin Hood

Though not the traditional telling enough of the tradition to make it interesting. Dark, bleak and ambivalent. Even the outlaws can't be trusted. Paul Darrow a fabulous Sheriff one of the best I've ever seen - a prototype Avon. I really enjoyed this series
