Writer Ernest Thompson won an Oscar for On Golden Pond and he transfers that film's theme of child-parent reconciliation to the open road in this entertaining TV movie. Kirk Douglas revels in the role of the retired travelling salesman who decides to embark on one last adventure before he dies. However, he's prevented from dominating the film by Craig T Nelson, who digs deep to convince as the wayward son who goes along for the ride. With able support from Eileen Brennan and Bess Armstrong, this funny, provocative and touching tale is directed with anonymous care by Tom McLoughlin.

    Awful

This is a terrible film, with incredibly bad acting and script from such an esteemed cast.
