Disappointing

The film surrounds a high school shooting incident and a confrontation between the shooter, Dianne and Maureen, with a very difficult choice being offered to the two best friends. This isn’t really violent. The premise sounds bleak but quite interesting on paper however the film is told in an infuriating way, full of pointless cuts between the two friends high school life that preced the confrontation, Dianne’s adult life as she is apparantly happily married and raising a child, shots of swimming pools, flowers and other philosophical metaphors and apparantly deep meanings about the human body and mind, cut backs to the same confrontation over and over again and a less than subtle melodramatic score which becomes so over the top and constant that your attention is almost always drawn to it.

Throughout the film the viewer is led down the most uninteresting path of Dianne’s dull adult life as she experiences depression and survivor’s guilt over the incident and presumably the death of her best friend Maureen.

SPOILER

The obvious assumption that we are led to believe is all pointlessly undone during the film’s increasingly obvious anti-climatic twist. The film title will then click as you mutter 'dur' to yourself, credits roll and you will be left with an overwhelming sense that time has forever been lost.
