Dating from the time when seemingly every successful British sitcom was awarded its own feature, this is a long way short of the TV standard, with writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais falling into the trap of misusing film freedom to turn their material blue. However, Rodney Bewes and James Bolam are as engaging as ever as Bob and Terry, and their tour of the North East coast contains plenty of the wallowing and lamenting that gave the show its lasting appeal. Below par, perhaps, but it begs the question: whatever did happen to the likely lads?
Valuable as a record of an excellent and long-running TV series, this big-screen version finds most of the humour regrettably broadened.
I have watched this film many times, having taped it from TV. I cannot agree with the 'reviewer' who thought it was 'rubbish'. It is just as good as the TV series, and does not lose anything by being a film, as happens sometimes. Watch it, and you will not be disappointed.
probably not so funny for the ladies but Terry's approach to women creases me up.
