Matthew McConaughey ticks the boxes in this fast paced thriller - as long as you don't mind a plot hole or two...

3.5 stars or 4 stars ?? Let's go for a 4----it's classy enough.
By roncoach (365 reviews) from suffolk , 24 Oct 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
It is so difficult for a film like this------competing in a market of so many similar types in the genre------to make a real 'mark', and for a viewer to remeber it in any detail within a few months of having seen it.
I so rarely give 4 *s to these films. But this one deserves 4*s because it WILL stay in the memory, it's better than the original novel I read a few years ago ( very unusual for film to beat book, especially when author does not write the screenplay ), the cast is just right, the direction is spot-on, the dialogue is a major contributory factor ( the great 'patter' that one associates with Bogey playing Phillip Marlowe in a film noir).
So let's give it 4 stars and recommend it as a courtroom drama/ thriller with that bit of extra ooomph that lifts it way above so many of its genre.
Highly recommended. I loved it from start to finish, when----especially as I'd read the book-------I was not expecting it to be so well adapted for the screen and to hold my interest throughout.- Was this review helpful to you?

Exciting, with an air of unpredictability.
By Wormy (20 reviews) from Edinburgh , 23 Mar 2013Matthew McConaughey excels in this role when he has to be smarmy and scheming, however beyond these innate traits he seems to possess he gives a very lacklustre performance. The plot of the film and its superb hip-hop soundtrack make it an edgy and suspenseful drama. About as good as a legal drama can be.- Was this review helpful to you?

Smart, better than I hoped.
By Purplelally (7 reviews) , 04 Mar 2013I was pleasantly surprised by this. Hard nosed lawyer. Very sneaky client. It looks slick, the dialogue is smart, the pace is brisk. Matthew McConaughey's character gets more desperate as the plot thickens and William H Macy plays his hack 'researcher' to a T. Nice plot twists. I'd recommend it.- Was this review helpful to you?

no great shakes
By ricpol (1 review) , 03 Feb 2013Did not like the four trailers for the horror films with no option of going to the root menu. Well at least I learned how alike they all are. In the Lincoln Lawyer I could not understand what on earth they were talking about. People pretend the the British can understand Americans talking, but really we can not. I liked the landscapes of the American suburbs.- Was this review helpful to you?
