Pollydoodle on!
By a customer from Wakefield , 25 May 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
An excelllent but quite sentimental film with Shirley Temple at her best. The story is good and there is an excellent performance from Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, with a very good duet with Shirley. There are a few good songs, my favourite being 'Pollydoodle all the way', which will uplift anyone who watches it. A few heartwrenching moments where you may need your hankie (i.e when her mother dies and when her father is in prison and when she is separated from both). The interesting concept here is that the child, aged 6, is informed her mother has 'gone some place beautiful' instead of being told her mother has died. In addition, only we are aware that her father and another man who helped them are about to die in a few days time but the term death is not used, merely 'when is the party?' All in all an excellent film combining good story, excellent characterisation and a steriling performance on acting, singing and dancing by Shirley Temple.- Was this review helpful to you?
