Policing the old fashioned way.
By SolarvanMan (103 reviews) from Thirsk , 01 Mar 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a great film and I had been waiting years for it to finally appear in the rental lists. Like a lot of the classics it has languished in the wish list for months. Jack Hawkins gives a great performance as the Police officer in charge of this intriguing case. He is well supported by a top list of British 1950's character actors with a familiar face in every scene. The story is a cracking yarn about safes! But I'm not going to spoil it for you by divulging the plot details here. If you want some classic Ealing for an enjoyable evening then this is a good choice. Great cast, Great Story and Great production.- Was this review helpful to you?

(9)Really Good Whodunit
By TopFuel (2 reviews) , 17 Jun 2012An excellent whodunit film and well worth watching. A nostalgia look at the streets of London in the mid-1950s brought back fond memories.- Was this review helpful to you?

Terrible transfer to DVD.
By a customer from London , 04 Dec 2010The company which made this transfer to DVD should be ashamed of their terrible work. How this was allowed to pass into circulation and be charged for is beyond me. This DVD should be withdrawn and remade. Truly disgraceful. The film was poor stuff with the typically stilted acting and dialogue of the period.- Was this review helpful to you?

I'd like to give it 5 but,
By Les Reed from east London , 24 Sep 2010the transcription to DVD was terrible. The film itself is a very enjoyable one of its time - no doubt - but the very low sound level made it almost impossible to hear on a couple of our tv's. Not a good day for the firm that converted it to DVD - and even worse for us, the viewers. Such a shame.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Long Arm
By JamesandCalli (20 reviews) from Oswestry, Shrops , 06 Apr 2010An excellent black and white 50s British police drama - following the Long Arm of the law as it chased leads, battled dead ends, and of course eventually came up with the answer as to whodunnit and howtheydunnit. Thoroughly enjoyable.- Was this review helpful to you?

Classic British
By a customer from Brigg , 13 Mar 2010Brilliantly plotted and paced british 'procedural' crime film. I was engrossed from start to finish as the story unfolded.
In the day when nonsense human emotions didn't get in the way of a good story!- Was this review helpful to you?
