ore smoothly crafted than the 1974 slapstick version....The new version has the zip of a 96 yard punt return
Adam Sandler is hit or miss with me. I absolutely hate movies with him when he does his stereo typical dumb guy routine - like Little Nicky, etc etc. BUT then he plays a quasi serious character (i.e. not dumbed down and overhammed) in movies like 50 first dates and Wedding Singer.
Thankfully this is one of the latter. The movie is still funny and his character is still pretty unbelievable but at least its not OTT stupid.
I gave this movie five stars because it just hit the spot. Its funny, the storyline is predictable but that adds to the enjoyment (the writer gives what 90% of us want - a gritty underdog story with ... well I won't spoil it!).
The cast is stellar - I would argue that Adam Sandler is not even the biggest draw. It even has 'Jaws' (from James Bond)!
Yes - its cheesy, predictable, the jokes can be a bit lame but all in all thoroughly enjoyable, easy Sunday night viewing. The sport (football) is also relatively well represented (though if you are a serious affindico you might find some of the special 'plays' a bit cringeworthy!).
So - whether you like American Football, Adam Sandler, a simple underdog
sports story or just an easy comedy - watch this movie!

She has made the transition from teen-orientated movies such as The Princess Diaries and Ella Enchanted to critically acclaimed projects such as Becoming Jane and the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain. Meanwhile, Steve Carell, who... Read more
