EXTRA SCENES MAKE THIS A DIFFERENT MOVIE TO THE CINEMA VERSION

In my opinion this is quite simply the best story ever told and i'm glad to say I've never even read the books...why would I want to when the films have been so utterly enjoyable.

The characters is the extended versions are (particularly in the fellowship) presented more and little side stories and humour add even more magic.

If you've seen the originals and think that this isn't going to be worth watching, think again. You're talking about an extra 20 minutes to each of the first two films and about an extra 30 minutes to ROTK to make sheer imiginative brilliance.

An easy 5 stars from a realistic reviewer.

    Confusing

Every time you rent a series or a double disc edition, make sure you don't take home the "extra features" disc instead of the movie one. The features of these "appentices" of the LotR are just fair, nothing exciting or out of the usual backstage's director/crew honours to a movie.

    This is the EXTENDED Version

The previous review is incorrect and the author must have received the wrong disk. As for the extended version, I also wanted to view it in order to evaluate whether or not I would buy it. I should preface my comments by saying that I am a BIG fan of both the books and the originally released films.

For those of you that are fans of the book, the added scenes contribute a great deal to the film. I think it gives much more insight into Aragorn's character and self doubt that the book details much more than the theatrical version of the film.

Though some scenes may not add much to the overall impact of the film, the director's comments about why some scenes were deleted are very interesting. This is a must see for any fans of the origninal movie.

Good half a film, but what use is half a film. I see no point in hiring half a film and would not have done if it was clear what this was, I have no idea when the next half will come.

    Excellent film

Although a little slow in the Woodland Realm the extra footage does improve the theatrical release and fills in gaps in the story line. Feels like I was asleep and missed half the film when I saw it originally.

A bit miffed the film runs over two discs. Why on earth did they think that was a good idea, surely it will fit onto one. It has always been the film on disc 1, bonus stuff on disc 2 which is why I only asked for disc 1. Just getting into the film then it tells me to change discs. Very upset, shouldn't there be somewhere on this web sitewhere it tells you what is on the second disc???

    Apart from that great film

These DVDs are great. The only bad thing about them is that you will want to buy it instead, so you can keep it forever.

Having just finished the book, i have to say that this comes as close to book as can possibly done. Even tho it's 3 1/2 long there are still some things missing, but i have to say that this is trully amazing. Even the extras are something to behold. clocking in at 4 1/2 hours long. althought you might think that the film being put on 2 disks is a bit of a pain, well it's a welcome relief. without that break you'd feel like you'd been watching forever. Anyway this is as close as you can get to the story without reading the book. Peter Jackson does justice to the text in everyway.

    A Massive Accomplishment

At the time of The Fellowhip Of The Ring's cinema release I had got bored with modern cinema. Nothing was breathtaking or surprising any more. Everything had been done. The film I had been most looking forward to seeing, at the time, was Harry Potter since the books were such fun. I went to see HP and came out satisfied; a pleasant watch. It was purely by chance I was swept off by my male friends to watch LOTR. Overwhelmed by half time, it had not taken me long to realise HP was the gum on the shoe of this monumental, all-englufing movie. Get swept away with the fantastc characters (and acting) and the breath-taking special effects (which, unlike so many other films are used for a purpose, not merely to prove such images can be created). This film is a modern marvel. A masterpiece.
