Quite simply the best Trilogy there's ever been and for a fan like me, the extra scenes were only making thins better. I just can't understand people who've reviewed this saying that they make no difference!!! There's an extra half hour for gods sake!!
I found that what had been edited was mostly humorous moments and character building that was non vital to the plot, so it got axed, but what an excellent film it is with the extra included and I think made entirely different in doing so.
Even if you've seen the original take my word and watch this (or infact watch all of the extended versions) it wont disappoint...a classicly emotion stirring, sword slashing fantasy extravaganza!
Excellent film...apart from the 6 endings which could have been cut to 2, then the added scenes could have been included in the theatrical release.
A must for everyone list.
Ok it's long, very long, but the movie is too complicated (well at least the names are) to rush.
Have an early tea for this one and pace yourself with the drink. The film is absorbing from the start-a tad gory in places but quickly forgotten as you get swept off to the mythical world that is The Lord of the Rings
Brilliant...amazing...truely awe inspiring...the list can go ever on...
This version of the trilogy is just stunning. The muliple stories come together and the finale is just mind-blowing - with not one, but 2 massive battle scenes. It's the ultimate good vs evil struggle!!
Jackson, his crew and New Zealand have done justice to Tolkien's work and have impressed most of the known world. It's no small achievement...and the extra discs give you some understanding of the extraordinary lengths these little kiwis went to to produce this truely brilliant film.
You have to see it....it's a classic!!!
This is a true masterpeice of filmmaking, with the inclusion of the additional scenes it clears up some blank spots in the story. Peter jackson has done a wonderfull job in creating this trilogy and and he could have done no better.

Five stars will never be enough for this film. It is breathtaking, fantastic...superlatives fail...I watched the film, picked up the books and read them all over again.
This really is 'one film to rule them all'.
Its long, but in my opinion not long enough. We get to see the fate of our intrepid hobbits Frodo & Sam, and that of the 'One Ring' is FINALLY revealed.
Cinematic history in the making and quite rightly deserved the 13 oscars it was awarded
In my opinion the best film ever made!

The best fantasy epic ever made.
Firstly, the original version was amazing. Full stop. The extended version takes the film to another level, by becoming more and more faithful to Tolkiens work and by filling in gaps in the plot. The scenes with Saruman and the mouth of sauron should not have been cut in the first place! For hardcore fans of the lord of the rings and tolkien, this is essential viewing. For non-enthusiasts, it is worth seeing but they wont fully appreciate how good this is! A+++
Already reviewed it once - but I could not resist submitting another before I finally put down this incredible masterpiece .... at least for a while :)
I have just spent all night watching the whole Trilogy in one uninterupted session. The wife thought I was insane when she came in the Study at 1am wondering what I was up to (a third way through Film One). She stayed until the end at around 6am, she was enchanted with it all - and that is from someone who has hated the Fantasy Genre all her life.
Review after Review here has said it all, there are no words left unsaid that are adequate to do it justice. I just plead with every sinew in my soul, get all three films, a galleon of coffee, and treat yourself to an immortal Trilogy that will go down in Film History as the best ever made.
I have never had a film affect this me way ..... its just ...... Awesome
What a film, and what a version the Extended version is, suberb from start to finish, very well put together, saw the film originally at the pictures but the new version added so much more depth.
A fantastic end to a wonderful trilogy, probably the best trilogy of cinematic history.
One to see time and time again, breathtaking.
