Blue Peter remake Jurassic Park

Some films are so bad they're good. This isn't one of them, it is just plain bad - well utterly dreadful is closer to the truth. It reeks of the BBC Sunday afternoon family slot for which it was clearly pitched and as a result bears as much relation to the excitement of dino-flicks such as Jurassic Park as Scooby Doo does to the Hound of the Baskervilles. Just to give a taste, the film has men in monkey suits parading as the missing link(s) in a manner as convincing as an escaped gorilla on the Krankees, Bob Hoskins reprises his King Kong impression from the finale of Long Good Friday and the special effects make 1 Million Years BC look like a slasher movie. Not to mention the disconcerting effect of Peter Falk appearing stuffed apart from his spinning one good eye. Mix in a taming of the offensively entertaining bombast of Challenger in the book and a roughly shoe-horned Darwinian vs Creationism theme and you have an excellent excuse not to pay your licence fee as a protest.

The Lost World

Film stuck very much to the book story line with a few bits added in. Interesting and enjoyable to watch.

Good adventure

This was a good adventure and well acted. However it was very similar to Jurassisc park, but set in 1920s instead.

Not the lost world

If you saw this film having not read the original book, and thought it awful, don't blame Conan Doyle. If on the other hand you hadn't read the book, but like the film, then ignorance is bliss. After seeing the truly awful film versions of this classic story, I looked forward with hope when the BBC announced their production of The Lost world. What a hope! I expected an actor with the presence of Brian Blessed to take the part of the overpowering professor Challenger, but instead got Bob Hoskins. I hoped that the BBC may have followed the book a lttle closer than previous versions, but instead got a multitude of characters that had nothing to do with the original story, the culmination being Peter (Columbo) Falk playing a religious maniac ! I don't know how they managed to keep out Sherlock Holmes and doctor Watson, or perhaps Cannon and Ball .
