Peter Jackson is under pressure as he brings the dramatic novel to the big screen.

Mark Wahlberg?????
By a customer from Chester le Street , 23 May 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
I'm a big fan of Jackson movies...but I'm not convinced of the casting of Mark Wahlberg...his performance in M. Night's (also a big fan) The Happening was really TERRIBLE!! (VERY bad movie)...I don't see him as any character in the novel? I hope they're not casting him on his so called 'bankability' at the box office, that would be sad. I've read Alice Sebold's book and loved it...although I found it a little unresolved (but thats just my own frustration about certain characters (which is a good thing because you care about them so much), and nothing to do with this fantastic story). Definitely four stars for the BOOK...I'll reserve judgement on the film...I'll write another review when I've seen it!!!
Continued... well I've now seen the film and I have to say it was very disappointing. Jackson did kind of stay true to the book, but I think he spent too much time on Suzy's 'heaven' with it's clever effects and Suzy's musings and thought's on her earthly (alive) family... but it just didn't work for me... maybe it was the lack of chemistry with the main cast members, although I have to say contrary to my previous slagging of Wahlberg... he was actual pretty good for once. Sorry... the book is better.- Was this review helpful to you?

I am a huge believer in the after life read this book which i could not put down and then i watched the dvd as soon as it was available. thought it was really good but not as good as the book. Recently the film was on TV and i watched it again and enjoyed it far more the second time would give it 5 stars now.- Was this review helpful to you?

Wrong 12 rating should have been a 15
By a customer , 28 May 2013Thought this film was good but was shocked that it was a 12 rating due to some of the scenes, especially the bit with the guy in the bath, very freaky. It should have been a 15 at least. There is no way I would want my niece of 11 to watch it. Just goes to show that you need to watch these films first.- Was this review helpful to you?

Has the bones of a good film.
By Bobsview (559 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 04 Apr 2013Good thriller narrated by a 14 year old girl who has been murdered. Has Rachel Weisz in it. Moving and watchable.- Was this review helpful to you?

An Emotional Endulgence
By sophieyapp (1 review) , 15 Mar 2013Such an incredible film, extremely moving. I love the concept of it, and although it is heart-breaking at times to watch, it really is an outstanding film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Average Didn't Enjoy Much
By babylon (114 reviews) from Rochester , 18 Feb 2013I read the book and didn't enjoy. I was hoping the film might be more inspiring but as I should have expected its no better. Didn't like some of the scenes in the 'between' which I couldn't find believable.- Was this review helpful to you?
