Peter Jackson is under pressure as he brings the dramatic novel to the big screen.

Mark Wahlberg?????By a customer from Chester le Street , 23 May 2009
[Highly rated reviewer]I'm a big fan of Jackson movies...but I'm not convinced of the casting of Mark Wahlberg...his performance in M. Night's (also a big fan) The Happening was really TERRIBLE!! (VERY bad movie)...I don't see him as any character in the novel? I hope they're not casting him on his so called 'bankability' at the box office, that would be sad. I've read Alice Sebold's book and loved it...although I found it a little unresolved (but thats just my own frustration about certain characters (which is a good thing because you care about them so much), and nothing to do with this fantastic story). Definitely four stars for the BOOK...I'll reserve judgement on the film...I'll write another review when I've seen it!!!
Continued... well I've now seen the film and I have to say it was very disappointing. Jackson did kind of stay true to the book, but I think he spent too much time on Suzy's 'heaven' with it's clever effects and Suzy's musings and thought's on her earthly (alive) family... but it just didn't work for me... maybe it was the lack of chemistry with the main cast members, although I have to say contrary to my previous slagging of Wahlberg... he was actual pretty good for once. Sorry... the book is better.

Chilling Yet Amazing!By a customer , 13 Jun 2012I LOVE 'The Lovely Bones'.
It is one of my favourite films of all time. Although a little chilling at times (i'm only 14) it's still an amazing film!
Their cinematography is amazing and it's really well thought out.
I recommend it to anyone that likes a good thriller!
Five stars *
Thumbs upBy Pussnboots (8 reviews) , 30 May 2012This is such a good film. Cant see how anyone who is into this genre wouldnt enjoy it. A must watch.
superbly doneBy a customer , 23 May 2012I think that the film is wonderful. I don't understand how can people hate this film and go with films like Avatar to call a milestone when it's nothing but a visiual feast with some freaky characters in it spoiling stupid dialouges. For me The Lovely Bones is the best thriller ever made with some new ideas. If people can't relate to this film I don't know what they want
If you go in with an open mind and an open heart then you'll enjoy a gripping tale that captivates till the very endBy SaitenMar (15 reviews) from Dudley , 17 May 2012
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideHaving not seen much of this film beforehand, nor the much loved book for which this is based upon. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when I popped in the disc of The Lovely Bones. The film adaptation of Alice Sebold's much acclaimed novel, it tells the tale of young 14 year old Susie Salmon who is murdered by a neighbour. It begins a captivating and heartfelt tale that gripped me till the very end. It's a whimsical tale but one that if you can swallow that sort of thing you'll find much to love.
As someone who enjoys some whimsical and magic in his life now and then, I found the tale of The Lovely Bones touching and meaningful. At the same time there will be many who can't swallow the more mystical moments and leaps of faith. But if your so closed up that you can't accept some mysticism into your life then The Lovely Bones might not be for you.
Great performances from Stanley Tucci and Mark Wahlberg are an highlight, but it's the young actress Saoirse Ronan who truly steals the show here. Her portraying of Susie Salmon is enduring and a perfect example of some of the wonder found throughout. Many of the more imaginative moments contrasts well with the gritty tale of a murderer hiding from police. Overall it just flows together wonderfully well. Now having not read the book, I can't say how well it portrays the details of the novel but I got a great deal of joy from this film.
It won't be for all, some will openly dislike it and that's fair. But. The Lovely Bones is one of the best films I've seen in a while, I liked it so much I ended up purchasing a blu-ray copy the day later.
