Cult Classic!

Christian Bale looking his worst and acting at his best. If you like films that make you think, then this film is awesome and not to be missed. Though it's sinistercism will mean it's not everybones cup of tea.
Scarred throughout with an underlying dark feel to it. The machinist takes you into the mind of Bale's charachter Trevor who suffers from extreme insomnia. As the film progresses it allows you and Trevor to simultaneously unravel the trail of clues leading to the cause of his insomnia. The backdrop of the average dull toned town that he lives in adds even more realism to this must see film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bale gives a brilliant performance as a tortured soul and the supporting cast are pretty good too but it is just too dark, too moody and and too hard going for it's own good. Some of the plot points are unresolved ore just don't make any sense either, for a start I can't believe that a person can go for a year without sleep. There are other things but I can't say for fear of spoiling but you will pick up on them, once you realize where things are going and you think back to what you've seen the holes will appear. Not a bad film by any means but definitely one you have to be in the mood for and pay attention to.- Was this review helpful to you?

A film that makes you think (a bit)
