    [Highly rated reviewer]

Surreal & very funny - Peter Sellers & Ringo Starr use apparently unlimited money to point up pretension, mock snobbery & mock the establishment. Made in 1970, but with very much a 60s flavour, in terms of both the overthrow of class & the trippy scenarios that Sellers & Starr set up.

The cast is full of faces you know, often doing things you wouldn't expect, & part of the joy of the film is spotting them.

    Excellent, entertaining film.

You can see some of the cast looking wary of the meta-indulgence here, recalling the schizoid side of Sellers revealed in biography. The lead character , uniquely, is off the peg, whereas Sellers typically invested astonishing detail into his physical and vocal charcterisation. There are some dire moments that might be from an 8 year olds indulged precociousness. But fast forward to the sequences that work, The soundtrack is nicely done- it really needs more Chapman,Cleese and Spike.

This isn't a super-slick comedy, but it is enormous fun. Great ideas - many copied in the decades since. And excellent soundtrack. Worth a viewing. Or two.

Very dull. Lacking plot. Visually interesting and great cast but, if you are not going to live for ever, give it a pass.

I had a dim recollection of seeing this on TV late one night when I was a kid. I had a vague memory of Yul Brynner in drag and wanted to check out the film in case it was just a bizarre but vivid dream. The cross dressing member of the Magnificent Seven is in the film – phew! But sadly it was not an enjoyable watch – I thought the 1960's anti-establishment humour had not aged terribly well.

I saw this film when it was first released in 1970 and thought I would watch it again some 39 years later to remind me of what a great film it was.

I don't recall going to the cimema blind drunk and in a state that would have made this film understandable and worthy of watching but clearly in 1970 I must have been.

This film belongs in a museum - in the basement covered in dust.

There is nothing funny or remotely resembling a story.

OK its a small piece of 'fun' watching the 'names' (stars) in their cameo roles.

But unless you are blind drunk, stoned or simply just 'suffering' please leave this film to the memory cells.

.........Or you will be sorely disappointed!
