Clever & fun for the 50's
By a customer from Surrey , 08 Jun 2011Guiness and cast bang on form in this comedy that zips along.
Know Gibralter quite well so was interesting to see it in the 1950's and the how the Brits lived there (fire in the hearth going all the time and playing at keeping Jonny Foreigner out).
Film worth it alone to see stiff upper lip Celia Johnson let her hair down and do a rumba/jive/salsa number and also Guiness do a flamenco number with a young and Rubenesque de Carlo!- Was this review helpful to you?

Revenge Is a Dish....
By buffyrules (335 reviews) from southend on sea , 19 May 2011Absolute classic in so many ways-brilliant acting not just from Guinness and an excellent insight into the history of the U.K. and its numerous foibles and rituals. Paved the way for so many including Peter Sellers.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Greatest
By a customer from Colwyn Bay , 24 Jan 2010Along with the Titfield Thunderbolt this is unquestionably the joint best of the Ealing comedies. It has the best script of them all and obviously the plot is delicious. It, rather unusually, kept all of my children happy and enthralled throughout. Finally, it has some of the best screen performances of British talent in cinema history. The definitive Ealing comedy, if you only see one see this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

brilliant
By janharvey (3 reviews) from Sheffield , 18 Jan 2010Films like this are rare. a gentle yet fast paced black comedy. Charming and funny. I watched this film when i was a very young kid and after re-visiting it 15 years later it still has the same magic!- Was this review helpful to you?
