We threw this film in as a no brains required action movie, the kind you throw on when you have nothing to do, regular TV is poor, and you’re looking to unwind with a glass of wine and an empty brain at the end of a long week, and that’s pretty much what we got. The Marine is the cheesiest movie I have seen since the 80’s, filmed very much in the style of the original Schwarzenegger movies, a few one liners, tonnes of explosions, and some really tacky music playing during the low octane scenes. We both actually enjoy this style of movie, some of the classics are indeed classics and highly entertaining, however, we felt this one went too far. The acting is budget, the script very loose and the action goes so far beyond unlikely it leaves you picking at every other scene. This is an acceptable watch if you are in the mood for this style of movie, its on TV, and really have nothing better to do, but we could not advise anyone to purchase or rent. Stick to the classic Van Damme, Schwarzenegger or Segal movies to satisfy your action movie desires. 4/10. Only in desperation. 2 Stars.
