I really enjoyed this...By a customer from Dorset, England , 28 Feb 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]I rented this not knowing what it was about at all but I love period drama and Ciaran Hinds so that decided it! Throughly enjoyable, the plot is extremely good (thanks to Thomas Hardy of course) and is almost played out scene for scene with the original book. All performances excellent (esp Ciaran Hinds) and it really captures the feel of the times.
I would definitely recommend it to all!

Mayor of CasterbridgeBy a customer from Norwich , 09 Mar 2009This was beautifully filmed, giving a good overall representation of classic Hardy - both in terms of the story itself but also of the countryside. The very competent acting turned what can be a bit of a slow read into a continuously interesting and moving story. A really good evenings' entertainment!
the mayor of casterbridgeBy a customer from Pontyclun , 15 Jan 2009a good film although it was obvious what would happen
Love'imwhydontcha?By a customer from The Sticks, England , 31 Oct 2008Excellent!
I had to read Far From the Madding Crowd for my A level - what a chore - if only I could have 'studied' this film instead.
Fine production for novel cheatsBy a customer from London , 28 Oct 2008Really with adaptation as excellent as this (and not without certain sensationalism) you'll probably be forgiven for not reading the source novel, or if like me you want an introduction to Hardy before embarking on the epic reading
A bit long-winded but goodBy a customer from Redhill , 03 Oct 2008It's what you expect really. Quite well made.
