The Mentalist is superb. I have loved this tv series from the start.

Simon Baker stars as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

This show also stars Robin Tunney (from Vertical Limit), Tim Kang (who played En-Joo in Rambo), Owain Yeoman (who played Sous Chef - Stephen Daedalus in Kitchen Confidential) and Amanda Righetti (who played Ariel in Return to House on Haunted Hill).

Patrick Jane has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his amazing skills of observation (reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes).

He also makes frequent use of his mentalist abilities and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium using paranormal abilities he now admits he faked.

He abandoned his pretense out of remorse when his attention-seeking behaviour attracted the attention of a serial killer called Red John who killed his family.

Though a bit eccentric, Patrick is very perceptive and much of what he finds helps solve the cases they are investigating.

He is very brilliant and in-tuned to what is around him, but is often cocky, playful, and annoyingly right, all characteristics that earn him friendship in each of his colleagues.

    Well worth watching !

I first saw this series on TV and enjoyed the new angle to the crime investigation TV genre. The series is both amusing and informative and often leaves you wondering what the main character will do next.

Watching the episodes in order allows a better understanding of the main story plot as well as the actions of the individual characters.

Anyone who enjoys shows such as CSI, NCIS and Sherlock Holmes will love The Metalist.

Similar to NCIS series one - useful to get the background to the current series. You appreciate the characters and where they were coming from.

If you need a detective series that keeps you guesing who the baddie is then move on. One really doesn't have to be that clever to work out this formulaic type television. So the series lives or dies by the amount of interest one wants to invest in the main characters. The light hearted Mentalist and his tragic past. The feisty woman boss, the love struck detective, the new ambitious young woman detective and the straight laced tough, no smiling one.

Well written and nicely acted, there really is nothing to dislike about a series that can leave one with a smile and a feeling that the time has gone quickly. It simply works well and despite lacking in some moments, makes for an entertaining watch. Good television and fun as well.
