The MexicanBy Filmfan from West Yorkshire , 22 Oct 2003
[Highly rated reviewer]Looking back, I think I was hoping to see Julia Roberts get wasted during Mexican madman mayhem. Oh yes, I know she's a looker, but I have never really managed to get past the whole Pretty Woman thing.
To be fair, Julia is fairly good in this. Brad Pitt plays an excellent hopeless loser and when James Gandolfini (you know, The Sopranos) appeared on screen, I almost started paying attention. The script works hard in places and made me smile from time to time.
Filmfan's top tip; Watch the deleted scenes with the commentary switched on and you will howl in laughter at how pretentious film makers can be.
Verdict; it passed an evening, but if you are looking for major Mexican madness, rent Desperado or El Mariachi.

Absorbing but easy viewingBy nomad2 (12 reviews) from Bucks, England , 06 Feb 2012I love this film. The characters are simple but believable and you really want to laugh at how they keep meeting disaster after disaster and still bumble through. The story gradually unfolds and changes and, although it may keep you guessing the first time, I've watched it over and over and still enjoy every minute. Brad Pitt is adorable and funny. It's great that he doesn't take himself at all seriously. Julia Roberts is great and the chemistry between her and James Gandolfini is brilliant.
great film to watchBy alex2301 (177 reviews) from West Halton , 13 Nov 2011really enjoyed watching this film with brad pitt and julia roberts, i loved the cast and the story line.
was a little disappointed with the ending and how it suddenly went all serious, it seemed the comedy was finished. All in all it was a great film to watch
undecide on this filmBy Hannahbob (16 reviews) from Shipley , 22 Oct 2011Dont really know what i think about this film, i got lost half way through it, not one of brad pitt and julia roberts best films!
Boring and not as funny as it thinks it is.By Sargonix (42 reviews) from Letchworth Garden City , 29 Aug 2011This drags along, as a mish mash of themes that just don't get to any kind of point. 1 star stultifying dullness, trying hard to be a hip and cool Elmore Leonard style comedy and falling on its arse.
The cast was good, although wasted, Roberts and Pitt as a couple doesn't really work. So an extra star for the acting.
Two stars, don't waste your time on this one.
Great castBy gianino (648 reviews) from London , 03 Jul 2011Really good cast & outstanding acting. Brad & Julia were amazing & James Gandolfini & Gene Hackman were also brilliant. It is funny, however, it goes on for too long & it gets a bit flat towards the end. Brad is so sexy here that it is worth watching it just for him. Good but could have been better
