Not one for sceptics, this heart-warming drama (based on Rodman Philbrick's novel Freak the Mighty) is a reminder of how special childhood can be. Elden Henson gives a wonderful performance as lumbering outcast Maxwell, whose miserable life at school is transformed by his friendship with the intellectually gifted and physically disabled Kevin (Kieran Culkin), who introduces Maxwell to an imaginary life outside his own depressing existence. Henson and Culkin are superb, and they are ably supported by a cast that includes Sharon Stone as Kevin's mum, Gena Rowlands, Gillian Anderson and Harry Dean Stanton.

Another step down in the once mighty directing career of Peter Chelsom. 'Hear My Song' and 'Funny Bones' were classic British whimsy, as perfect as anything from Ealing. This, however, is derivative, childish, predictable and fey. Of course if you are a child you might get it.
What it does have in common with his two better films is unconvincing policemens' hats.
Best ever film.A feelgood film beond belife.great for the kid s and adlts.(bit sad).As i said AMAZING!!!
