Sub-par western chase hokum with bonus added hocus-pocus nonsense. Certainly missing something.

After an attack on Maggie Gilkeson (Cate Blanchett)'s ranch leaves her employees dead and her daughter Lily (Evan Rachel Wood) kidnapped, she teams up with her estranged wannabe Apache father Samuel Jones (Tommy Lee Jones) to track them down. Turns out she's amongst a group stolen by wacky witchdoctor Chidin (Eric Schweig) to be sold at the Mexican border. To Ron Howard's credit he makes an unpolished script at least tolerable until it descends into abject daftness, asking you with a straight face to take Chidin's spellmongering seriously. It's fighting a losing credibility battle after that and there's little reason to care much about the not particularly thrilling conclusion to the chase. While it's nice to see a Western, a seemingly dying breed, on the big screen again even the impressive cinematography isn't enough to save this from it's own stupidity. Eminently avoidable.
