    [Highly rated reviewer]

If you enjoyed Frank Darabont's optimism drenched Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile, you might want to think twice before booking your tickets for his latest Stephen King offering.

Where there was alliance in Shawshank, there is deep discordia and fraction in The Mist. No cute little mice or the eventual triumph of Good here, instead you have limb chopping monsters and the film's ultimate evil nasty - Marcia Gay Harden, who excells and will have your skin crawling faster than the arachnoids habitating in the strange mist settling over a (surprise, surprise) sleepy little town.

If you want dumbed down slash horror, you will be disappointed. At a meaty 2 and a bit hours, this is much more of a pitch of human evil against otherworldly monsters, with an almost stage like feel, some great performances and a mostly complete absence of the light at the end of the tunnel.... unless you count seeing the flashlight coming towards you that belongs to someone running to save his limbs and life.

    Marvellously bleak.

Only managed 40 minutes of this film, truly dreadful. The story line seemed dull and the graphics were dire... Can't comment on how it finished as it didn't hold my attention for long enough... POOP

It was a fairly good film but I couldn't help watching it and counting how many people have been in TWD. OK,it was only two or three but I kept getting confused about what I was watching ;)

  • Boring and predictable

I'm usually a fan of bad horror films but I found this one to be boring and predictable. The characters are all unlikable and do stupid things all the time. The situation of a group of disparate people trapped by the encroaching fog could have been used to excellent effect to build tension and genuine sympathy for the characters but just degenerated into violence and yelling as these films predictably do. Even the twist at the end was somewhat pointless as by that point you really don't care how it ends just as long as it does end.

  • AVOID! So bad...

Utter rubbish from start to finish. I laughed out loud all the way through. Is it meant to be a comedy? It is genuinely awful. Has the feel of a straight to video film of the 1980s. No idea why people like it. Please do not bother unless you like watching real rubbish for a laugh.

  • Unbelievably it's better than the book!

I read this Steven King novelette just before the movie came out. The book kept me gripped until the last page but King didn't give it a great ending. Surprisingly the movie did a better job. The director managed to capture exactly what Stephen King had written. Visually, the film looked exactly as I had pictured it in my head when reading it. As for the ending, WOW. Maybe folks who haven't read the book will guess the films' ending but I didn't and it stuck with me for a long time after the movie was over. Great movie that will shake your emotions.
