An updating of MR BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE in which an up-and-coming entertainment lawyer takes the big step with his girlfriend and purchases a fixer-upper for a 'steal.' As it turns out, the steal is really a rip-off and everything that can go wrong, does. Some think this is one of Tom Hanks' finest comic performances. He demonstrates his knack for physical comedy when he, for example, tries to climb a flight of stairs that literally crumbles beneath his feet. Anyone who has ever had a big dream and had to fight for it will appreciate the way this film is structured and the pay-off in the end.

There are belly laughs aplenty in this unofficial remake of Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House, but director Richard Benjamin runs out of inspiration after an hour and the film ends up being more in need of renovation than Tom Hanks and Shelley Long's new home. However, Hanks does enough to remind us of what we've been missing since he made his mark in serious drama, while Long's perfect timing leaves you wondering why she has never quite made the transition from sitcom to cinema. Joe Mantegna and Philip Bosco have sly cameos as shiftless contractors, and Alexander Godunov is fine as Long's smarmy conductor ex-husband.
Witless semi-remake of Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House, with screams instead of subtlety and no real humour at all.
the plot and storyline of this film is generally quite straightforward, couple buy house thinking its a bargin, couple set seen off, house falls apart, couple rebuild house, jobs a good 'en. Nothing special but the journey from start til finish is fantastic.the direction by Benjiman,is practically flawless, the cast is perfect for the film, the dialogue is simple yet brilliant, and it is th ekind of role that made tom hanks the biggest name in the movie business.I have seen this film about ten times and i still laugh out loud everytime i see it.Tom hanks plays this caracter with such energy and enthusiasm it nearly jumps out of the tv at you.when the house starts falling to bits, taking along with it his relationship with shelley long,he is excellent as a man who has resigned himself to the fact that 'god is against him',finding the mayhem around him as funny as the viewers.
this is an hour and a half of your life that i garantee you will not regret.
stuck in the carpet down the hole in the floor, pure genius
Julia Roberts paid a bizarre X-rated tribute to acting pal Tom Hanks at a New York gala in his honour on Monday night (27Apr09). Hanks was the guest of honour at the Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute, attended by a star-studded audience of friends and former colleagues. After entertainment, including a performance by Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa, Roberts, who appeared alongside Hanks in 2007 movie Charlie Wilson's War, stepped onstage to toast her pal with a hilarious, Read more
