The Monocled Mutineer has finally reached DVD after a wait of over 20 years. It is a fine ensemble piece with excellent performances by all the cast members. Paul McGann is perfect as the young hero/villain and he is well supported all round including Dave Hill of Eastenders fame. Particularly strong are the World War 1 scenes where the futility of the action at the front is counterbalanced by the overwhelming patriotism of those back at home who do not yet fully realise the horror and suffering of their loved ones seemingly so far away. This DVD is highly recommended.
Paul McGann plays one of those redoubtable Jack The Lads who always bounces back from misfortune with a smile and a song and how the heart sinks, for life is not like this. Coma-inducing series for those with too much time on their hands.
