    Superb funny film, very enjoyable

Monster Squad is one of those films, that despite its numerous shortcomings, you easily enjoy and will watch again and again. It is a throwback of sorts to the fifties and sixties when magazines like Famous Monsters was coming out and television stations had weekend fright shows. It is a story about a group of 80's adolescents fighting the evil horror of Dracula, the Mummy, the Creature, and the Frankenstein Monster in a race to save Earth from permanent evil and dark forces. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy...and it is in many ways. The film, however, creates a nostalgic feeling for many people that grew up loving monster pictures. The make-up is outstanding, the acting competent, the sets believable. My favourite part of all though, is when the boys finally meet the old German man and befriend him. One of the boys says to him that he knows a lot about monsters, and when the door closes the old man looks at the concentration camp id branded into his arm and says, 'yes I do.' That line sums up the reality that exists between fictional, harmless horror and the reality of the real monsters that live or have lived in our society. All said, this is a truely fun film, not the best film ever made but in the same sense of the goonies an excellent teen comedy horror flick, well worth a look, 4 out of 5 definately!!

    Diet Goonies

DUDE! When i was kid i loved this film so much i actually threw up! I even wrote to 'Jim'll Fix it' to arrange for me to meet the cast. He didnt fix it for me :(

Saw this film again recently and although this feels like slapping my own Grandmother - it hasnt weathered well. I have to compare it to Goonies and whereas that film is still a great today, Monster Squad suffers for maybe throwing itself too much into the 80's.

If you saw this film as a kid then your in for a good dose of nostalgia 'Wolfmans got balls?', but there's not much to it!

    The Monster Squad!

What a brilliant film! Great fun for all the family, not too scary for younger children! Bought it on video when it was first released!

    Fright free fabulous fun!

With master of the one-liner Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight) taking some of the screenwriting credits this movie is off to a great start. He splashes this flick with some toned down Lethal weapon style humour but gives the whole thing more substance with a nod to real life monsters (Nazi's) that adds distinct Spielberg style veneer to the whole proceedings.

All this said it has dated but it doesn't dissapoint as much as some other films of the same era.

Stan Winston's Studios rubber creatures stand up well with The Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Dracula being the best of the bunch only let down by a rather stiff looking Wolfman. Rent it now and re-live the eighties!
