    Mosquito Coast

I thought this movie was excellent, but then anything that Harrison Ford is in usually is. I saw it some years ago and even though it was the second time around for me I enjoyed it immensely. Harrison is a very gifted actor and he makes you believe the story, his portrayal of the almost 'mad professor' was flawless and the children were so professional in their approach. Excellent and well worth watching.

    The Mosquito Coast

Rented the film because I missed it when it came out a few decades ago and because I wanted to watch 'River Phoenix' - he was the only good thing about the film. Stopped viewing around the half way mark- hated the style, the script, the plot!!!!

    Possibly Harrison Ford's finest performance!

Marvelous film. Intense, deeply psychological and thrilling. Ford as a man who's tenacity borders on the insane. Helen Mirren as his wife equally brilliant.

    Don't bother.

With so many good films to see, this is not worth renting. It's rather a silly film with one or two factual inaccuracies, probably because of lazy, hack, scripting.

    Not his best film

Not his best & does not reflect the quality of the book. The father & son relationship is not realistic enough. Shame as Harrison Ford is such a quality actor.

    Good film

A well acted and interesting film about a brilliant, but flawed man who decides to leave the decadent USA to move to the south American jungle.

Harrison Ford plays against type here and proves his stong acting credentials. Good support from Helen Mirren and River Pheonix.

    Good, watch it

Not a blockbuster or a cinema classic but I really enjoyed this film. A good (and different) story with interesting characters and an excellent performance by Ford as the cranky and bullying main character. I'll certainly watch it again.

    Excellent

This film features a very impressive cast and still remains one of River Phoenixs' best performances in his short career.

I've not read the book so i don't know how loyal the film remains to it but i found the film to be incredibly well written, well acted and entertaining. The only downpoint for me, was Martha Plimpton not having more screen time.

    ok watch

this is a standard watch really. It starts off more promising that it actually turns out to be i felt. Its the story of a radical inventor who wants to leave America and go the the jungle to help people. If you are bored on a Sunday afternoon then give it a watch. Worth it to see actors such as River Phoenix, Harrison Ford and (especially) Helen Mirren in the 80's!
