I attended a preview screening of this film and it?s the only film preview I've ever been to where more than half the audience walked out.

The ?story,? such as it is, concerns a bereaved grandmother who moves in with her daughter?s family and the complications which arise from her affair with a young feckless builder, who is also her other daughter?s lover! There is a lot of very explicit material, but who this might appeal to I can?t imagine.

The quality of the production is what you?d expect from a BBC 2 ?gritty? drama and the acting can?t be faulted, it?s the script that is the problem. If there was some sort of national scandal where a large percentage of grannies were in the habit of stealing their daughters boyfriends perhaps there would be a reason why this was made ? if there is such a trend, I?m blissfully unaware of it!

During the film there were many unintended laughs and even more groans from the audience - even after they thinned out. I have always had a policy of seeing a film through but this film came closest to making me leave before the end. See it at your own risk!

What a refreshing change to see a well known cast of british actors in a british film. I admit the name Daniel Craig drew me to this film, but the film is often brutally honest about how truly awful family life can be and how old age is something to be avoided at all costs. You really want to learn about all of the characters. You feel truly sympathetic for the downtrodden mother figure, and often see life from her point of view. However, she is a well rounded enough character to expose some of her flaws, which you may not like, but you can understand. The two leading characters are fantastic, and you do get to see some of Daniel with his kit off. In addition he is much more of a complicated character here to make you really despise him at times. You should really watch it!

    Breathtaking.

Brilliant and clever film. Emotional. Thought provoking. Believable perfomances.

Very touching and very worth watching. I didnt move once when I watched it - transfixed waiting for the next scene.

Cant think what else to say without saying too much.

    Just watch it.

....and I'm not talking about the content of the film. I got this DVD as I thought it looked interesting and a bit different but it was dreadful. The plus points are: Anne Reid.........er, that's it. Everything else in this film was utter dross, Daniel Craig (is he the Hugh Grant of the noughties? this isn't a compliment) does his usual sensitive but smouldering bit which covers up the fact he is a sh*te actor. The characters & plot are laughably bad, when Dad dies on a visit to London, he is never mentioned again and his wife stays on in London - don't the middle classes bury their dead?. It's a film that thinks it's a lot more thought provoking than it is and a smugness hangs over the whole thing.

If you want a British film that tackles a diffcult subject well, with real characters try Gary Oldman's 'Nil By Mouth' not this cack.
