This is a good movie. It is really well put together. It shows that with strong story telling and good direction a movie can retain its quality throughout the years.
Boris Karloff is genuinely disturbing as the Ardeth Bay - Imhotep (high priest) but manages to elicit real sympathy with the depth of his love and how far he is prepared to go for his love of Amonk sa ramoon (Priestess of Isis).
There is an excellent balance between silent story telling and the dialogue scenes. The sound track is spot on with music and great dialogue. Sound was just being developed in the 30's and the actors could not initially stray to far from the microphone. 30's movies can consequently be a bit static and stagey. This is overcome by a great control of the pacing of the film.
You do have to remember that this film was made in 1932 and have to adjust from modern day CGI. If you can, you will be rewarded by this classic.
