When they accidentally resurrect him, the battle for survival begins, as the mummy begins to use his powers to reclaim his long-lost love. In the good old days, the Mummy merely met Abbott and Costello. Now, thanks to the wizards of the special-effects industry, this digitally manipulated villain can meet his adversaries in a world of vibrant action and epic adventure. It's all here: ancient curses, an embalmed high priest, two rival parties searching for archaeological treasure and dashing legionnaire Brendan Fraser romancing prim librarian Rachel Weisz. Screenwriter/director Stephen Sommers has embroidered the original story to excess at times, with flesh-eating beetles and battling zombie slaves just two of the gruesome modern additions vying for screen time with the more traditional elements of the tale. Yet Fraser does his goofy macho best as an Indiana Jones clone, tackling every scene with endearing enthusiasm, while Arnold Vosloo has the perfect bone-structure for the brooding menace returned from the dead.

A tongue-in-the-cheek Boy's Own adventure, which is played mostly for laughs and the occasional shock, and is notable only for its computer-generated special effects.

    superb

this film is superb. The Mummy has action, love, adventure, horror and comedy all rolled into one excitingly, nail biting, edge of the chair movie. It also has a kind of exotic magical style and feel, about it too.

In ancient Egypt, one priest called Imohotep, had the nerve to fall in love with the Pharaoh's mistress called Anck Su Namun.

after being found out, Anck Su Namun kills herself, and imohotep after killing the Pharoah called Seti, suffers the Hom-Dai, the most feared curse of all. he is mummified alive, and is cursed , to become one of the undead, and to suffer for all time. Unless of course, if someone releases him from his prison, then he is free.

we then move forward to the 1920's, where a group of treasure hunters, and a group of archeologists, set out to find the ancient city of Hamunaptra.

adventurer, and ex. foreign legion soldier, Rick leads Egyptologist Evelyn, and her brother Jonathan to the mysterious Hamunaptra. Rick is a bit of an 'indiana Jones ' type character.

Benny, Rick's fellow foreign legion colleague, is leading the group of American treasure hunters, and another Egyptologist, who thinks that he is better than Evelyn, because she is only a woman.

Benny previously did the dirty on Rick.

Unfortunately, they and the rivalling group of careless American adventurers, free Imhotep's mummy from his eternal prison, thus accidently awakening the ancient evil.

they find themselves in a race against time, to save their own skins, and the world in general.

The special effects in this film are excellent.

While Jonathan is keen, on finding the legendary Egyptian treasures, Evelyn wants to search for the Book of the Living which is made of gold. this book would clarify a lot in historical knowledge, about the ancient Egyptians.

Imhotep wants to bring Ankh su namun back to life by using Evelyn's body, but he also wants to rid the world, of the disbelieving crowd of democracy supporters, to be able to enforce his tyrannical dictatorship.

    well worth renting out.

    Weisz: 'Oscar win was bizarre'

    • 14 Dec 2009

Rachel Weisz struggles to remember the moment she won a prestigious Academy Award in 2006 - because she was so heavily pregnant it was like an "out of body" experience. The Mummy star was expecting son Henry when she was handed the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in The Constant Gardener. Weisz admits the ceremony was extremely surreal - and confesses she can barely recall her winning moment. She says, "My son was born in 2006, so it must have been then. It was bizarre, because I...
